Recommended 'Strenuous' Walk

Ben Nevis (1344m)

The highest point in the United Kingdom and as such our most popular mountain. However the route that we propose means that we can avoid the crowds, apart from a brief encounter on the summit.

Starting and returning to the car park at the head of Glen Nevis we pass through the truly spectacular Nevis Gorge to the ruins at Steall and from there ascend to Carn Mor Dearg (1223m). We then traverse the Carn Mor Dearg arête, and after some scrambling with fine views of the great cliffs of Ben Nevis’s northern face, we ascend to the summit and there meet with those that made the ascent by the tourist path. We then join them to descend by the main path to meet our transport.
