"Putting your Trust In An Internationally Qualified Mountain Leader - Ian Lowden IML"
Find Out Who'll Be Keeping You On The Right Track
"As a boy in the 60's, I was fascinated by the outdoors. As soon as I had the boots I was raring to go. Ready to explore, to discover, and to enjoy the spectacular mountain ranges throughout Britain and Europe. Just a few years later (ok, quite a few) and I still feel the same way, and, because I've always enjoyed introducing people to the mountains, it feels great to be able to share the experience with others as part of my work”
Changing Professions
Until May 2007, my career as an architect served as a bungee rope, pulling me back every time I made weekend and holiday getaways to the mountains. However, I had a plan. A plan for a great escape, a plan to gain formal qualifications in Mountain Leading, a plan to make a new career, a new business and begin a new adventure.
Getting Qualified
In 2006, I was well on my way, gaining the essential qualifications as an International Mountain Leader to become a member of the British Association of International Mountain Leaders.
Supporting The New Venture
My wife, Margaret, also a keen hill walker, assists with admin and support on the hill.
Everything was in place. It was time to leave. And leave I did.
The Story So Far
Since May 2007 I've spent four summers in the Alps leading the Tour of Mont Blanc and Shadow of the Matterhorn for Exodus. This was a tremendous experience that gave me the opportunity to spend time amongst some of the worlds finest mountains. It also gave me the opportunity to meet and lead an incredible mixture of interesting and friendly people. Being part of, and contributing to peoples holiday experience is a great privilege, which I greatly appreciate.
Business in the UK has been good in 2010, and this has included guiding parties up Ben Nevis for Seren Ventures, as well as multi day trips and navigations courses.
In 2011 I wil be spending July and August in the Alps and will be available the rest of the time for bespoke trips in the UK.
